My Yoga journey began in 1999 in Brighton, England. I agreed to accompany a friend of mine with a bad back to a yoga class. I was young, fit and flexible and I believed I didn’t need yoga. I left my first class and knew that I would be doing yoga for the rest of my life.
My first teacher Thea was my greatest inspiration. An older lady she could do more things with her body than most teenagers. She seemed so happy and peaceful. She taught me to understand that the body, mind and soul are one and by doing a regular practise of yoga asanas and pranayama I could start to find some peace in my mind and my heart. The most important lesson I have learnt from practising yoga is to live in the moment and to enjoy my life now.
She would often talk about her yoga training at the Sivananda Ashram in the mountains of Kerela India. I found this exciting and dreamed of doing the same thing. Ten years later I visited the same Ashram where I qualified as a yoga teacher in December 2006.
As all yoga teachers do I started to try different styles of yoga all of which I love, but I really fell in love with Aerial yoga, a practise I started in 2016. I love how it makes me feel completely present and is so much fun. I decided to do my Aerial yoga teacher training in 2019 at Radiantly Alive studio in Ubud with my friend and business partner Hels.

I was bitten by the yoga bug in my late teens and steadily practiced for years till I found the courage to train in India to become a teacher. During my training we touched on a few different yoga disciplines, but one in particular resonated with me, Ashtanga yoga.
Ashtanga yoga is a series of poses done in the same sequential order coordinating the movement of the body with the breath. Ashtanga translated means eight limbs which describes eight principles to live and practice by.

My love of yoga started in 1999 when a friend encouraged me to come along to a class. I was instantly hooked. I did my teacher training in 2002 and I have been teaching ever since.
I ran a yoga studio for 8 years in Bondi. Then for the next 8 years I taught out of a big old church hall also in Sydney.
Yoga has provided me with so much; friendships, confidence, strength and stability inside and out.
I absolutely love teaching and sharing all the wonderful aspects of yoga. My yoga style is light hearted and nurturing. I have enjoyed over the years watching how much my students get out of their practice. It has always felt like a privilege to be part of people’s yoga journey.
In early 2016 my local aerial arts studio started aerial yoga classes, I was immediately hooked. Sadly the studio closed but I wasn’t giving up that easily! I bought myself a hammock and talked the hubby into drilling into our living room beams so I could practice from home. Aerial yoga was still very new in NZ and I had no resources to learn from so I trawled the internet and found various online teacher training courses, I was so eager to learn more. On a trip to Bali in 2019 with Sarah we attended an aerial yoga teacher training and had heaps of giggles! And together the idea of bringing aerial yoga to Yoga Savitri was born. I love how the hammock supports the body helping to get deeper into stretches and making inversions more accessible. To top it all off it is a fun and playful practice and once you have experienced Savasana, cocooned and floating in a hammock you won’t want to leave! I am so excited to bring this innovative form of yoga to Yoga Savitri and to share my passion with you all.
